Some people raised their eyebrows when I suggested we start a tradition in the middle of a pandemic. But, as with most things, I don’t pay too much attention to nay-sayers! My birthday is October 17 and to say I love fall is a wild understatement. And, who doesn’t love a good community, feel-good event?
And, while I can’t take credit for creating the idea of carved pumpkins on stakes, I can say it is definitely an event that captured the hearts of so many guests! So much … that we ran out of pumpkins somewhere around 230pm and I had to run out to our neighboring pumpkin farm to rustle up 30 more!!!
This year we have ordered, in abundance! We supply the carving tools and the pumpkins. Then carve to your heart’s content and watch them come alive over the lapping waves of Tomales Bay!
I thoroughly enjoyed watching kids and adults spend time, as families, carving, eating, drinking, laughing. That was exactly my hope! And wow – the jack-o-lanterns on javelins over the shores … stunningly haunting! I hope to see you there this year for our second annual community event!
